Powder Puff

Thurston High Powder Puff

Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s Thurston High, like many schools, hosted an annual Powder Puff game. Often a “just for fun” and loosely organized event, this Junior versus Senior rivalry game began to take a new look in 2000. That was the year Thurston’s Leadership/ASB Class began officially organizing the event and the Springfield Police Department became the game’s annual sponsor. A few of the upgrades included keeping stats as well as awarding trophies to the winning teams and outstanding players. From that point forward the competition and rivalry grew more intense each year as teams began practicing for weeks leading up to the big game and the varsity football players, who serve as coaches, began developing playbooks and game plans.
