Honor Society

Honor Society LogoThurston's chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained a cumulative 3.5 GPA and who have demonstrated scholarship, character, leadership and service to their community.

Thurston's NHS engages in local and international community service projects and provides scholarships to graduating seniors that have demonstrated their excellence in academics and service.

Current NHS members will be helping Shelter-Care with their Jack-O-Lanterns on Broadway fundraiser.  On October 26 Thurston NHS members will be carving 150 jack-o-lanterns for the group.  Shelter-Care has a sponsor who is giving them $5 for every jack-o-lantern they have displayed, so our 150 jack-o-lanterns will earn $750 for Shelter-Care.

Letters were sent to 150 current Thurston High School 10-12 graders.  These students have met the minimum standards to be invited into Thurston High School’s chapter of National Honor Society. To be invited to apply to NHS students must have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA and attended Thurston High School for at least 1 trimester.  The purpose of this organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in high school students On their application students must show that they are not only excellent in the classroom but that they also excel in leadership, service and character.  Applications are due to Mrs. Pifer by 3:30 November 2, 2011.  The faculty council will review student applications and students will be notified of the council decision November 15.  New members will be inducted into NHS on December 5, 2011.  Good luck to all who are applying.
