Dear Colts and Colt Families,

We are at the end of this wild and crazy year.  The staff at THS want to thank you for being so patient and understanding during this most unprecedented year.  We have all lost so much, yet learned so much at the same time.  We are all looking forward to the fall of 2021 and getting back to a “normal” school year.  If things keep heading in the direction they are, I am confident that we will be opening as usual in September.

The finished production of the 2021 graduation ceremony will be going “live” this evening at 5:00 pm.  If you would like to view it, you can watch it here:

Employee of the Year

It is always such a great honor when someone from our Thurston High School gets recognized for the great work they do for kids, families, and staff.  Austin deserves this recognition!  His tireless work ethic and willingness to be at school supporting students and activities does not go unrecognized.  The way Austin is received by students and staff, as well as his ability to connect with students, makes him deserving of this title.  Congratulations Austin, we are proud of you!

A, B, A, B Schedule next week

Just a reminder that next week we have classes Monday – Thursday, with a grading day on Friday.  Last day for grades 9-11 will be Thursday, 6/17.  Finals are Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th.

Summer School (Informational Flyer)

Thurston High School will be offering summer school sessions for credit recovery this July.  These classes are for students to retake classes they failed and to get on-track for graduation.  Up to four classes can be taken for credit (up to 2.0 credits total). Counselors are reaching out to students this week.  If you are interested and think this could help your student, contact the counseling department at 541-744-5156.

Session 1: Classes for Credit

  • July 6th – 15th (no classes on Mon. 7/5, Fri. 7/16)
    • Morning and Afternoon Choices
    • Completing one class is worth 0.5 credit (so you could earn 1.0 credit if you go to a morning and afternoon class)

Session 2: Classes for Credit

  • July 19th – 29th (no classes on Fridays)
    • Morning and Afternoon Choices
    • Completing one class is worth 0.5 credit (so you could earn 1.0 credit if you go to a morning and afternoon class)

If you attend both sessions and also attend morning and afternoon (4 classes total) you could earn 2.0 credits!

Summer Enrichment Camps in August! Stay tuned for information coming soon! (NOT FOR CREDIT!)

These are just for fun, mark the dates!

  • August 9th – 13th
  • August 16th – 20th

I want to remind you that we are keeping the one-to-one initiative going for 2021-2022. If your student is returning to THS next year, they will keep their chromebooks over the summer. If they are not returning, or you are not comfortable keeping them over the summer, they can return their Chromebook (with their charger) to the library next week. They can check out another one again in the fall.

Textbooks and School Stuff

This is also the time to start looking around for old textbooks, library books, instruments, uniforms, etc.  If you find anything that belongs to THS laying around the house, please have your student return it to the main office or library by June 17th.

Again, thank you for being patient and helping us through this year.  Look for information about next year coming out over the summer.  I will be sending out emails as information comes available during the summer, as well as sending home a letter in August outlining the registration procedures.  Have a great and restful summer.

Go Colts,

Chris Reiersgaard
Interim Principal
Thurston High School
